Simply Customize It Update: Bug Fix and Small Additions

Simply Customize It Update: Bug Fix and Small Additions

Just released version 1.0.7 for distribution on both iOS and macOS!

Yesterday morning when creating a new custom template through the browse view I found a bug that created many templates, when I pressed the add template button, until I chose to force the app to quit. I knew I needed to fix this ASAP as I didn't want anyone else to have to deal with this issue.

While fixing this bug I was running the Mac version of Simply Customize It but found I had to keep switching to my phone to more easily delete all the wrongly created templates. This was troublesome and annoying so I added the "Delete All" button, for each browse, to the Mac app. Since the Mac doesn't support the edit button, used on the iOS version, I moved the button to the bottom, under the list, in both versions so as to not be in the way. Other than the moved button nothing changed in the iOS version while the Mac version now acts similarly with a constantly visible button.

When you press edit the button to delete all the items has been moved from the top to the bottom of the screen. It still works the same with a confirmation just in case it was pressed by mistake.
The browse forms on the Mac also now have the β€œDelete All” button. The button is always visible at the bottom of the screen and, like with iOS, you still have to confirm the deletion.

While working on the bug I noticed a minor issue where my test data no longer had the Custom category set so any newly created templates had to have the category manually set. I think this happened earlier when the Custom category was deleted and since no one seemed to have noticed the original bug yet as I had no emails sent to my account I decided to quickly add the ability to set, remove, or change the default category for all the newly created templates. This way I could fix my test data and, if this happened to someone else, they could also easily do the same and/or just use it to update which default category they want to use.

With this update you just need to go into your device and edit it to change the defaulted category or categories. You can set no default category so any newly created templates will need to have their category manually set when created or you can set the device to a single default category or even multiple ones. Previously, when a new device was created, I defaulted the chosen new template category to Custom making it simpler to find your custom templates without taking up too much room on your reMarkable menu bar.

When you look at or edit your device you can now set the default category assigned to any newly created templates. This can be set to none, one, or multiple categories.
The same ability is available on the Mac too!

An easy example of a template with multiple categories is Blank that shows up under each category choice. Back when I first experimented with this I realized if you set no category on a template the reMarkable would still show it but only if you went under "all". I decided that wouldn't do and so made the template's category required in the app and haven't tried it again since.

And that's the app update! If you have any questions, a feature you want added, or whatever you can share a comment here or reach out to me at mail@simplykyra.com. I hope you're having a great day!
