Minesweeper Update: Smarter Loading and Quicker Navigation

Version 1.0.1 has just been released iOS!
There's been issues attempting to release the macOS version. That said, anything mentioning macOS below will be in the next release.

TLDR

This update brings a smoother experience to premium users who enjoy customizing their game boards.

The Problem

While playing Minesweeper one of my daughters discovered that the game hangs if you attempt to generate a 250x250 game board on the phone. Since this was also the default game setting force-quitting and reopening didn’t fix the issue. It simply restarted the loading process.

So, this update is basically a fix for her test case so you don’t have to deal with it too. Thanks, Zoey!

How We Fixed It

New Game Loading Screen

If your board is too large to auto-load you'll now see a splash screen with an option to create it manually. No more long waits when opening the app!

Current thresholds to see the alert:

  • iOS: 1,000+ squares
  • macOS: 2,000+ squares

If your preferred board size is below this and causing issues (or above and working fine), please reach out so I can adjust the numbers!

Faster Navigation in Game Settings

Large example Minesweeper game boards no longer slow things down by auto-loading. This means quicker access to your game settings without the lag.

Want to see an example game board? Simply tap the button to load one!

Improved Default Settings

Resetting to default now properly applies the settings instead of reverting to the last used configuration. This ensures a seamless transition back to standard gameplay.

Like I mentioned before, if you don’t have premium this update won’t affect you much as you’re still playing on a 9x9 board. But if you love tweaking game settings and playing with larger boards this update should make things smoother!
